Yes, I love ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas! But I rarely have time to catch all the ones I want to.
So today I wanted to share with you all some of my favorite Christmas movies. A few of them aren’t Christmas-specific, but for some reason I always feel more in the Holiday mood when I watch them during the month of December. I’m sure you all have some movies like that, too!
Come on, you know this is a classic now. It’s so fun and it definitely awakens the kid in me. Not to mention I walk around singing “I love you, I love you, I LOOOVEE YOU” and “I’m in a store and I’m SINGING!” and I say “Buddy the elf, what’s your favorite color” for about two weeks after each viewing. It’s just one of those films that makes me happy.
The Santa Clause was one of my favorites as a kid. We have it on VHS which really does me no good now, but I watched that thing so many times when I was younger, I’d be surprised if the tape even worked anymore. It’s got all the good attributes of a Christmas movie, and I love the life lesson. I also love how long it took me as a child to get the pun in the title. I was really confused about how to spell Santa Claus(e?) for awhile. I know now, though, that unless I’m talking about a contract, I should leave the “e” off.
I think ABC Family has trained me on this one. With all the Harry Potter marathons they do around the holidays (don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely NOT complaining), I now associate the films with the holidays. And yeah, I guess there is something about just wrapping up in blankets when finals are over and homework is no longer on my mind for a solid three weeks-monthish and spending hours watching all the films that feels like Christmas.
Anastasia just makes me happy. I know she’s not a “Disney” Princess technically, but she’s pretty kick-ass and I like to pretend that she’s best friends with all the Disney Princesses. No need for a rivalry when there’s room for all the awesome. This movie always ALWAYS makes me happy, but around the holidays it makes me even a notch happier. I can belt out the songs fearlessly and know that “Once Upon a December” is especially fitting when sung IN December. Admit it, you know you love this one, too. Bartok is the cutest villain-assistant ever.
There you have it. A few of my holiday favorites. What are your classics you can’t do without? I left some off the list, but I might do a 2.0 later in the month. Happy December everyone! What are you doing to bring in this last month of 2011?
